Spiral Temple of Truth History

Rev. Gladys P. Harrell was called to preach the gospel of truth that God had revealed to her through his word. She founded the Spiral Temple of Truth Church, a non-denominational organization, on October 17, 1972.

In 1972, Rev. Harrell began in her home teaching religious classes and self-development course. From there, Spiral Temple grew and moved to several locations in the city. First, to 77th & Vincennes and then to 2051 E. 75th Street. Outgrowing those locations, Spiral moved to 8946-48 S. Cottage Grove, ten to 103rd & Morgan and finally to the present location of 12350 S. Wallace. As Spiral Temple grew it expanded into several different areas including the Spiral Bookstore, Inc., and classes for youth activities, as well as a sanctuary.

In 1980, Rev. Harrell founded the Spiral Development Institute Inc., for the express purpose of teaching and training seekers of the truth about the indwelling of Christ. They were given the opportunity to express and find themselves through the Bible-Old and New Testament and new thought teachings.

Since the transition of our founder on March 10, 1991, Spiral Temple's motto continues to be, "A People Working Together to Achieve Victories Living in Christ". On September 22, 1991, Rev. Elizabeth Walker was installed as Pastor of Spiral Temple. Spiral Temple was blessed with a spirit-filled, bible teaching pastor that continued to build on the vision. Since her transition on May 7, 2001, Rev. Walker's love and dedication to teaching and preaching the gospel has been an inspiration to all that have passed her way. On October 15, 2000, Spiral Temple of Truth Church installed its third and current Pastor, Rev. Phyllis D. Harrell and on April 1, 2001, our third and current assistant Pastor, Rev. Beverly D. Harrell was installed. 

In the past year, the membership of Spiral Temple has increased and the Lord continues to allow Spiral temple to be a blessing to many others. Spiral Temple continues to spread the gospel worldwide, sowing seeds into missions that feed the hungry and aid the homeless.

Through many trials and tribulations, Spiral Temple continues to live God's word. With faith in God and the Holy Spirit guiding and directing our paths, we continue to spiral ahead. We solicit your prayers for our Pastors, the members and the local community of Spiral Temple of Truth Church.
